Feminist bookshop Goodwood Books presents a rare celebration of South Australia's feminist and queer literary history.
In 1986, a group of South Australian women established the trailblazing feminist Tantrum Press. It folded in 1994, but not before it commissioned and published short fiction, poetry and drama, producing early multimedia performance events profiling more than 70 South Australian women writers. Tantrum collaborated with many feminist and queer organisations, including Vitalstatistix, The Murphy Sisters Bookshop, and others including the Box Factory. Doppio Teatro, Junction Theatre, and The Red Shed. The press published a number of anthologies, journals and plays, including Around The Edge, launched at Adelaide Writers' Week.
In 1988, twenty-two Tantrum women descended on the ABC Studios in Adelaide where they read their work for radio producer Julia Lester. A single audio cassette was the only remaining archive of that event until earlier this year, when Goodwood Books remastered these extraordinary recordings. "An Afternoon with Tantrum Press" will present these archival voices, combined with live performances from the women of Tantrum, featuring poetry, prose and songs.
A rare celebration of South Australian women's voices and queer lives. See Goodwood Books website for updated program.

Goodwood Books is on stolen Kaurna land. We are a feminist bookshop, specialising in secondhand and select new books by women and marginalised voices. We are also a meeting space for readers, writers and makers, with a focus on community building. Our feminism is antiracist, pro LGBTQIASB+, trans-inclusive, anti-classist, anti-ableist. We curate with care, love and solidarity.
