Write From the Start

Write From the Start! LGBTIQA+ Voices Over 50 – A Special Feast Festival Edition is a welcoming, creative writing workshop designed especially for LGBTIQA+ people aged 50 and over. Whether you’ve written your whole life or haven’t picked up a pen (or opened a laptop) in years, this session is for you!

Led by writer and editor Caitlin O’Toole, founder of The Human Writers, this gentle, story-first workshop focuses on self-expression, connection, and celebrating lived experience. Through guided prompts, conversation, and optional sharing, participants are invited to reflect on the stories that have shaped them— and the ones they still want to tell.

This isn’t a formal class or critique group. It’s a chance to gather in a safe, inclusive space with others from the LGBTIQA+ community and explore what writing can unlock. You don’t need writing experience — just curiosity and a willingness to explore your voice.

Writing can be a powerful tool for self-understanding, healing, and joy. For many older LGBTIQA+ people, it’s also a way of reclaiming stories that have gone untold. Write From the Start! is about honouring those stories — quiet ones, bold ones, funny ones, fierce ones — and creating a space where they can be seen, heard, and celebrated.

Join us for a morning of reflection and sharing. Come just as you are. There will be an opportunity to have attendees' stories published on The Human Writers website or in a future Human Writers special edition LGBTIQA+ magazine.
